There are more and more books dedicated to Bitcoin and it is not always easy to know which one to choose, especially when you discover this universe.
However, there is one book that stands out from the rest, not so much for the quality of the writing as for the authenticity of the text. The "Book of Satoshi" is a compilation of all the public writings (and some private messages) published by Satoshi Nakamoto himself.
Thus, it is more of a collection than a classic book. It is then a book that allows you to read the messages of the creator of Bitcoin in an authentic way.
Here is our review of the book, which may interest you if you are wondering whether to read it or not.
Author Phil Champagne and the sober explanation
With a university background in computer science, Phil Champagne is able to understand and dissect the technical writings of Satoshi Nakamoto. Today, Phil Champagne is the director of the investment fund Wren Investment Group.
His approach is interesting, because he grouped together all the messages written by Satoshi Nakamoto on forums such as Bitcointalk. However, he sorted all the messages to keep only the most relevant messages.
Messages are grouped by category. Therefore, the reader is provided with a chapter list covering mining, implementation bugs, money creation, etc.
This gives a rather fluid reading, because it is possible to choose the categories that interest us the most.
However, and this is the great interest of this book, Phil Champagne summarizes at the beginning of each chapter, the technical terms and the words of Satoshi Nakamoto. This is very useful for better understanding certain concepts, especially when they are technical.
As the chapters progress, we naturally follow the chronology and development of Bitcoin. We can see the ever greater involvement of users, the ever more relevant questions and the answers provided by Satoshi Nakamoto. We see the many technical challenges that Satoshi had to overcome to implement Bitcoin. We understand better the history of Bitcoin and the impact of the first people who discovered it. We realize that it is also collective work that allowed Bitcoin to be designed so efficiently.
Phil Champagne ensures that the messages are understandable by a beginner who has no computer knowledge. For a computer scientist, this book is therefore highly informative.
Who is this book for?
This book is aimed at anyone who wants to know more about the foundations of Bitcoin, and who is looking to follow the creator's words as closely as possible. There are no interpretations in this book. We can read the sentences written, without the slightest modified comma, by Satoshi Nakamoto.
So, even if the creator of Bitcoin remains mysterious, perhaps even more so by reading all his messages, it is then a unique opportunity to understand his way of thinking and expressing himself. Indirectly, we can better understand his visions and objective regarding the creation of Bitcoin.
We also understand better the objective of Satoshi Nakamoto which was clearly to scientifically create a decentralized electronic currency, which would be practical and simple to use by everyone.
For us, at ZoneBitcoin, it is a book that enlightened us on the vision that we could have of Satoshi Nakamoto. Technical writings also allow us to better understand, far from interpretations, the methodical and highly scientific style of Satoshi Nakamoto.
Indeed, with this book, even more than with other books on Bitcoin, we also understand better the mathematical "genius" of the Bitcoin invention, as a computer protocol.
However, this book is not for you if you are looking for deeper explanations and a plural reading of what Bitcoin is.
