We were able to interview Thomas Clausi, the founder of a very ambitious project in Africa. The idea is to create a payment application (which would also include cryptocurrencies) that would benefit both users and merchants.
Obviously, when we talk about Africa, we are well aware that it is a heterogeneous continent with very disparate countries economically.
That said, for many tech and crypto entrepreneurs, “the future is Africa,” as we like to say.
To Thomas Clausi, it was also there that he decided to create his business. More precisely, it is in Morocco that the company will begin its activities. Subsequently, the company will open branches in the UMOA zone which brings together 8 countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo,) and then the rest of the 20 countries in Africa.
The ambition is great. Too big? Ultimately, all major projects needed to aim for the stars and the African market indeed seems more than mature for cryptocurrencies.
CEO Thomas Clausi has a rather atypical background and, despite his age, displays unwavering determination. We asked him if his age could be an obstacle. He answered that he "thinks it is a strength" and that since the resale of his previous startups, he has gained "much greater credibility". Unsurprisingly, this also allows him "to stand out and draw attention to his business."
Thus Africa Pay aims to be an all-in-one platform in which users can obtain a bank card, make transfers, and of course carry out crypto exchanges. Merchants will also be able to subscribe to equip themselves with a payment terminal.
Africa Pay aims to improve the entire system of financial infrastructure in Africa. This will necessarily involve the simplified use of cryptocurrencies within the continent.
As such, Africa Pay plans to launch its own Africa Pay token and for which an ICO is planned.
A percentage of the funds raised will be used to create a school to train students in digital careers.
Africa Pay is currently in beta, with release planned for 2022.
