14-year-old girl earns over $1 million with her NFTs

4th January 2022

Another seductive title, I know. There, we will remind you of the flamboyant story of an NFT which became known for its humanitarian aspect. Yes, it's not just lamborghinis and NFTs to make money. There are also humanist projects even if we don't talk about them enough, I must admit.

In short, yet another incredible story of an overnight crypto-millionaire. This is not a myth. This happens very regularly in the magnificent world of cryptocurrencies and in particular NFTs. And, this is also why many people opportunistically jump at the opportunity to try to grab the million, without trying to provide value.

We will then talk about a project which seeks to defend good causes, if you wish, and about show that you can do great things and still make money.

So let's talk about this story and this project which wants to support the cause of the Beluga, an animal in critical situation, as everyone knows.

Beluga NFTs (Belugies NFT)

It's an NFT project launched by a 14-year-old girl, Abigail, and her 25-year-old brother, Adam. It's Abigail who created the works (using an algorithm to finalize them). You should know that his brother works in finance and he got into cryptos in 2016.

In fact, in an article on Coindesk, she herself admitted that the first time she heard about NFTs, she didn't understand anything. Just like the rest of us, in fact.

Then, she became interested and understood the whole issue of NFTs and understood that it went further than a simple jPEG as many traditional media (which have not yet understood either) are trying to tell us. 'explain.

Abigail and Adam therefore embarked on this NFT project and after a month of reflection, they opened sales on October 16. They put up for sale a collection of 8000 images of Belugas.

By purchasing the NFTs, the holders then become fully part of the Belugie community. They can help support young artists and participate in essential votes on the future of the project.

Likewise, part of the profits are donated to non-profit organizations. In this case, a donation of $50,000 was made to the Beluga Whale Alliance.

From launch to raising over $100k in just a few hours

You should know that not all projects are so successful. We will return in an article dedicated to what makes the likely success of an NFT project.

In any case, for Beluga NFT, it is a perfect success story.

On the day of the sale, they put up 8000 NFTs for sale that buyers could mint for 0,8 SOL (at that time, around $160).

On the first day, the sale brought in more than a million dollars in first sales. It only lasted 10 hours.

Then, the next day, after the first sales ended, sales on secondary marketplaces started to explode

Transaction volumes reached 7400 SOL or even more than $1 million according to Alpha Art, the platform used.

A project designed to make donations before making profits

You should know -here- that NFTs are configured with percentage shares (between 2 and 10% in general) for secondary sales. So, these are sort of royalties integrated into all future sales.

Creators can then continually earn on all future sales that occur. This is also why NFTs are getting so much attention, by the way.

What is interesting about the Belugie project is that from the start, the project was designed to donate the percentage of sales commission to associations.

Specifically, each Belugie sale included a 10% donation to Sunshine Kids (a charity for children with cancer) and a 10% donation to various non-profit organizations chosen by the community.

The royalties for each sale nevertheless include 5% for the project in order to preserve the viability of the project as well.

As of October 26, the team has already made around $72 in royalties (commissions taken from each resale of NFTs).

NFTs, when business wants to be ethical

It should be noted that the project has caught the attention of crypto community influencers such as SOL Buckets and even Solana co-founder Raj Gokal. This has given the project great visibility. You know, NFT projects that have often been highlighted by "celebrities" have often (in fact) experienced great capital gains. This makes perfect sense.

You should know that many NFTs have this dimension in their business models, with a payment to a given association. Some NFTs even have the objective, as for the Beluga, of being entirely focused on charity.

We are preparing a complete topic on this aspect that can highlight NFTs and will come back quickly to tell you about it 😉 This is just a short introduction, you will understand.
