An unmissable event in a heavenly place
The conference Bitcoin Atlantis will be held on the island of Madeira, a volcanic island that is home to breathtaking landscapes that can also refer to the power of Bitcoin. This is certainly a coincidence, but it is true that many islands with volcanoes serve as meeting places for bitcoiners. We think here of El Salvador, which decided to exploit the energy of the volcano for bitcoin mining.
In addition to the volcanoes, the event organizers like to point out that the island's isolated waterfalls evoke the potential that remains to be explored in Bitcoin. It is also an event that invites participants to an in-depth exploration of the potential and realities of Bitcoin.
Madeira therefore seems to be a suitable island to organize such an event around bitcoin. Remember, in addition to the landscape, President Miguel Albuquerque has very often shown his support for the adoption of Bitcoin in Madeira.
Important figures from the Bitcoin ecosystem at the meeting
Among the 120 influential personalities from the bitcoin industry who will be present at Bitcoin Atlantis, we can name among others:
- Michael Saylor, the co-founder and CEO of MicroStrategy;
- Jack Dorsey, the co-founder and CEO of Block and former CEO of Twitter;
- Jack Mallers, the founder and CEO of payment platform Strike;
- Lyn Alden, founder of “Lyn Alden Investment Strategy”
- Alex Gladstein, director of strategy at Human Rights Foundation.
- Daniel Batten, investor and founder of CH4 Capitale, who studies the issues of Bitcoin and ecology.

Other events organized in parallel
The great particularity of Bitcoin Atlantis is certainly the fact that there are other events organized in parallel, throughout the island. The program is very complete, with golf tournaments, catamaran outings, musical stages and concerts, workshops for children, meetings around brunch, etc. There is something for everyone.
The satellite events take place from February 27 to March 5 to also accommodate participants who would stay longer on the island.
All events have a direct link to Bitcoin and also seek to introduce bitcoin to the people of Madeira. All of this constitutes a range of activities to do to discover bitcoin while having fun.

About the organizers
The Bitcoin Atlantis conference is organized by a local initiative “FREE Madeira”, with the support of other organizations such as the fund Ego Death Capital. In fact, the organizer of the event, André Loja, who is also the president of the “Free Madera” organization, has been fighting for years to create a true circular economy within the island. The organization is recognized in Madeira, and serves as a governing council for the Madeira government, public institutions and private sectors that wish to integrate Bitcoin into their programs.
FREE Madeira representatives believe that Madeira can become a major Bitcoin hub in Europe for several reasons. On the one hand, it is an autonomous region of Portugal, a country which is itself considered one of the most crypto-frendly countries in the world. The cryptocurrency industry is relatively developed in the country with many companies and players operating in the territory.
In addition, the taxation of cryptocurrencies is rather low in Portugal, which attracts more and more bitcoiners around the world who are looking to emigrate.
In summary
The Bitcoin Atlantis conference in Madeira is therefore a Bitcoin meet-up large-scale with real political intentions to make bitcoin an economic reality on the island. The conference also and above all seeks to educate and engage residents on the importance of Bitcoin for the economy and energy, with an emphasis on community, self-management, and the promotion of a democracy that would like it to be fairer.
In short, a great program in perspective, isn't it?
