Bitcoin for Gaza: The only currency that can still help Palestinians

June 5, 2025

While the world seems to be growing weary of a conflict that has been going on for months, one community remains active and determined: Bitcoiners. Through direct donations, awareness campaigns, and decentralized financing tools, thousands of players in the Bitcoin ecosystem are mobilizing to come to aid to the population of GazaJune 2025 marks an intensification of these efforts, as the humanitarian situation reaches a critical level.

🆘 Gaza: A worsening emergency

Since the massive bombings of 2024, Gaza has largely been in ruins. Most of the infrastructure has been destroyed: hospitals, schools, and power plants. More than 80% of the population is displaced or homeless, and access to clean water, healthcare, and food is dramatically limited.

Despite the dispatch of a few strictly controlled humanitarian convoys, Gaza's landlocked location and banking restrictions make the delivery of international aid extremely difficult, if not impossible.

"Bitcoin is now the only way to send aid to Gaza. Even Western Union is no longer working."

⚡ Bitcoin as a survival tool

It is in this context that Bitcoin takes on its full meaning. Without banks, without capital controls, and resistant to censorship, it allows Gazans to receive funds directly from abroad.

This isn't the first time Bitcoin has emerged as the only currency capable of circumventing state-imposed restrictions. This has already been seen in Ukraine, for example. It is often in times of war that we fully grasp the significance of Bitcoin. : a borderless, censorship-resistant currency.

Organizations like Bitcoin for Palestine managed by Yusef Mahmoud or even citizen initiatives launched by Palestinians in exile, collect donations in Bitcoin and redistribute them on site, in the form of vouchers, food purchases, or payments to doctors and teachers who are still active.

✊ A political and symbolic fight

Many Bitcoiners have created Community Lightning Wallets to facilitate microdonations, making aid faster and less expensive in fees.

Behind the act of giving, there is a clear message: refuse economic and political censorship. Many see Bitcoin as a gentle but powerful form of resistance, a tool for individual freedom where states have failed or been complicit.

But it's not all plain sailing. Poor internet access, power outages, and constant surveillance make transferring and using Bitcoin still perilous in Gaza. Some wallets are blocked, others inaccessible due to a lack of connectivity. Many volunteers on the ground are putting their lives at risk to use and redistribute donations.

Conclusion: Bitcoin as a bond of human solidarity

Today, as Gaza struggles to survive, Bitcoin is not a silver bullet, but a concrete tool of hope and survivalWhere traditional channels are closed, where NGOs struggle to get through, Bitcoiners are charting a new path, based on disintermediation, speed and trust between individuals.

In a war where images shock but are no longer enough, this silent but effective mobilization demonstrates that technology can still serve human dignity, where all seems lost.

Every satoshi counts.
In a region where bank transfers are blocked and access to aid is limited, Bitcoin remains one of the few ways to deliver aid directly and without intermediaries.
