There is a relatively well-known community among bitcoin holders called the “Bitcoin Carnivores.” This is a small community of people who own bitcoin and claim to have a special diet: 100% meat. Yes, you read that right: They eat only meat.
This is called "carnivorism" and it is a kind of extreme variation of the "Paleo" diet which consists of eating the same food as our ancestors, who lived in the prehistoric era.
These inveterate meat eaters remind us of what is most "raw" in us and this comes to collide with the opposing dictates of our time, rather turned towards vegetarianism and veganism. Meat lovers are therefore at the antipodes of what current decency would like, namely to reduce meat consumption.
So why does this community of barbaque enthusiasts exist and what the hell does this have to do with bitcoin? What is she trying to say and prove by only eating meat?
What is the ideology of “Bitcoin carnivores”?
We could summarize the ideology of carnivorous bitcoiners with simple and strong injunctions: Buy bitcoin and eat meat as much as possible. It is very serious. There really are people who eat only meat just as there are fructivores who only eat fruit.
So, you are wondering what this has to do with bitcoin? You do not see? Rest assured, finding the link is not easy and you are not the only one to be surprised by these meatheads who hold bitcoin.
Apparently, this injunction to eat pork would be the fruit (the word is poorly chosen, yes) of the spiritual and financial advantages that the consumption of meat would bring. This would also be the basis of an ideology which refutes the products of today's consumer society. And that's why the subject is interesting.
Who are the apostles of carnivorous bitcoiners?
One of the best-known carnivorous bitcoiners is certainly Michael Goldstein. He is the founder of theSatoshi Nakamoto Institute, a space that brings together the most important resources concerning Bitcoin. There you can find, for example, major documents such as the bitcoin white paper, emails sent by Satoshi Nakamoto or even the work of major cryptographic experts such as those of Nick Szabo for example.
Thus, Michal Goldstein – an avowed carnivore since 2015 – regularly publishes (notably on Twitter) about the “positive” effects of his diet.
It is a way of returning to the prehistoric origins of man. Man, when he was still free, did not live in a centralized society...It is then to be understood as a refusal of industrial food and everything that goes with it (control, loss of autonomy, precarious jobs, currency trustee etc).
So, eating meat is a snap in the current system. The meat diet then represents a sort of imagination of the free and strong man.
The analogy of modern food and modern money
The first major analogy between FIAT currency and that of modern food is based on the concept of the false, the fake and the artificial. Thus, fiat money that governments can print infinitely are toxic to the economy according to bitcoiners. It's the same thing with industrial food which is considered poisonous to humans. If you look at intensive agriculture, slaughterhouses, sweeteners and other pesticides, all this is just poisoning for the supporters of this diet.
Thus, eating pure meat also means avoiding and refusing the packaged food of the consumer society. Without metaphor. It is then a question of returning to original food for natural health, far from sweeteners and other chemical preservatives integrated into food sold in the supermarket.
It is from this perspective that eating meat is a protest and libertarian gesture. This is also why they are the bitcoin maximalists generally who are the evangelists of this extreme diet. However, beware of shortcuts, not all "maxi" are supporters of this diet.
What do nutritionists think?
However, it is good to ask yourself whether from an objective and scientific point of view, the carnivore diet is recommended for good health...
If we look for what nutritionists think, we tend to find criticism of this too extreme diet. While the paleo diet, which consists of eating in the same way as our ancestors, the carnivore diet excludes all other foods that are not meat. However, our ancestors were hunter-gatherers and therefore ate fruits as well... Some studies even show that there were vegetarians among prehistoric men... In fact, the opens the way to many controversies even today.
Basically, understand that carnivorism is a vast subject and a tricky question...There is no radical study (for the moment) which concludes on the benefits (or the opposite) of this diet. If you play sports, it can be an advantage to opt for a diet that includes a lot of protein, of course, but you still need to include other nutrients to avoid anemia, for example...
What's more, we also don't know if today the Neanderthal diet would be healthy for us because of the biological evolution that separates us from our ancestors... Yes, we no longer have the same jaw or even the same physiology.
What does this have to do with bitcoin? What is the link with politics?
Bitcoin is, for its supporters, the purest form of currency. More practical thanor (it can be transferred in a few minutes anywhere in the world), bitcoin has all its advantages. So, eating meat and owning bitcoin is a return to the crudest form of the human condition.
Do without a controlling State and intermediaries. If you only eat meat, you no longer need to go to the supermarket in theory. You could just go to your butcher and pay in bitcoin. In an extreme case, you could even go hunting your own game and thereby represent the image of the strong, independent man and therefore full of protein.
Thus, the Neanderthals who hunted an animal and ate it while making their own fire is perhaps the recurring fantasy that we find among these certified meat eaters.
We can compare this ideology to anarchy, in the sense that carnivorism frees man from his nutritional needs provided by the consumer society.
What is highly philosophical in the carnivorism of bitcoiners is certainly the idea that man can live better by getting closer to what he was before. Before what? Before enslavement to the consumer society, let's say the carnivores. Looking into the past, the renewal of man, this is what bitcoiners who only eat meat are looking for. In reality, it is not so much the past that is sought but rather the idea of authenticity.
Should you eat (only) meat too?
Not all bitcoin enthusiasts are extreme carnivores, rest assured. Moreover, other personalities in the crypto industry also promote the carnivorous ketogenic diet. For example, Zooko Wilcox, the founder of the ZCash launched with his wife Amber O'Hearn, a blog called "Keotic" to talk about this diet...In short, there are many differences of opinion on the subject and everyone will apply the diet they want.
Final word: No you don't have to eat meat to be a bitcoin supporter. You can continue your current diet if it is balanced ;)….
