If you want to receive your tokens with Airdrops, you must have an Ethereum wallet. So, here is a detailed tutorial to help you create a portfolio Ethereum in the rules of art.
If you don't know what a cryptocurrency wallet is, consult our article on best mobile bitcoin wallets.
What is MyEtherWallet?
Yes, a little definition first. My EtherWallet is an interface that allows you to manage wallets based on the Ethereum blockchain protocol. Unlike a platform like Coinbase, here you have direct access to your private keys. There are no fees for creating your wallet and you are completely in control of your cryptocurrencies.
With the address created on MyEtherWallet, you can store all your Ethers and all your ERC20 type tokens. So, you can store your tokens distributed for free by Airdrops for example. You can also store tokensICOs in which you choose to invest.
As you can see, having a wallet on MyEtherWallet is the basis of everything.
How to create a MyEtherWallet (MEW):
First, go to the official website of MyEther Wallet: www.myetherwallet.com
Double-check that this is the official site with the name spelled correctly. Also check that the site is secure and that the name is written in green letters. See the image capture below.
Now that you are on the site, here is the first page:
There you just need to enter a (strong) password. This means that you must enter a password that you will remember. Choose a complex word sequence with lower and upper case letters and numbers. For example, a password like this: Qt@raG54.
Once you have entered your password (and saved it somewhere), simply download the Keystore file (UTC/JSON). You can store this file on a dedicated USB key. The file contains your private key. It is this famous private key that you absolutely must save in a safe place.
Personally, I put my private keys on a USB key that I keep carefully at home.
Now you can click “I understand, Continue”.
There you finally have your private key. The famous private key that you must save in a file on. This is the only way for you to regain access to your account. No one should know about her. You must not forget it or you risk never having access to your wallet again.
You can write it in a notebook or save it on a USB stick.
Connect to your ethereum wallet:
Now it's good, you have your private key and a wallet. All you have to do now is log in.
You now have this page displayed. This page asks you how you want to connect to your wallet.
In fact on this page, you are given several choices to log into your account. So you can choose one of the presented ways:
- with your private key (the one you saved)
- via your JSON file (which you downloaded)
- via your Trezor wallet or Ledger.
But, the most secure way is to use MetaMask. It is in fact this Chrome extension that will allow you to securely access your MyEtherWallet account.
This is what is recommended by everyone, due to the many phishing attempts that have taken place.
So, the next step will be to click on “connect with MetaMask”.
Connect with MetaMask:
If you have not yet installed MetaMask (You can follow the article) here: How to install MetaMask.
But, if you haven't already installed MetaMask, this is the screen you should see:
On the right (highlighted in blue), this is your public address.
This public address should be used to send and receive tokens.
Thus, in airdrops, it is precisely this public address that must be entered.
By having installed the MetaMask extension, you should have this:
You know what??
You wanted to know how to create a myetherwallet, right? So, that’s it, my friends!
