Here are the 10 people driving Bitcoin adoption in Africa

Many personalities and entrepreneurs work directly for the adoption of bitcoin in Africa. THEhyperbitcoinization of the continent is still moving forward quickly and most certainly, these people have something to do with it. Whether through online courses, payment applications, the organization of events, project financing, all of these initiatives help advance the use of bitcoin on the continent.

The association Bitcoin Africa published a ranking of the most influential personalities in terms of bitcoin adoption in Africa.

We have taken this ranking and here we present to you the personalities who are working to make bitcoin a reality on the continent. It also seems important to us to make these personalities known and to show in our own way our recognition for the work accomplished.

Farida Bemba Nabourema: Human rights activist

Farida Bemba Nabourema is a major figure in the defense of human rights. Togolese activist, Farida Bemba Nabourema is also a writer and speaker. She has published numerous articles on his personal blog since 2009 to fight injustices in Togo. She also co-organized theAfrica Bitcoin Conference, which was held in Ghana, for the first edition in 2022. Convinced that bitcoin, as an alternative to Franc CFA could enable Africa to overcome its difficulties, she pleads for massive use on the continent.

Kgothasso Ngako: Founder of Machankura

Kgothasso Ngako is a bitcoin developer who has been in the news a lot recently for the innovation of his project Machankura. It implemented the ability to send and receive bitcoin on a simple phone that does not have internet. This is a very useful innovation for the continent when we know that many African residents only have a cell phone and not everyone has access to the internet.

So, with Machankura, anyone can send and receive bitcoins without an internet connection. Kgothasso Ngako has removed a serious obstacle to the mass adoption of bitcoin in Africa. Well done!

To buy bitcoin in Africa, it is mainly peer-to-peer platforms that are used. So, Ray Youssef is the co-founder of one of the best known and most popular P2P platforms (especially in Nigeria): Paxful.

Hermann Vivier: The founder of Bitcoin Ekasi

There are more and more villages around the world creating bitcoin-supporting economies. The best known example is certainly Bitcoin Beach in El Salvador. However, other villages are doing the same and the most famous bitcoin village in Africa is certainly " Bitcoin Ekasi". Hermann Vivier is the one who initiated this bitcoin village in South Africa via the program "The Surfer Kids". The idea behind Bitcoin Ekasi is to promote the financial empowerment of the inhabitants through the use of bitcoin.

Anita Posch: Founder of Bitcoin for Fairness

AnitaPosch is German but it is in Africa that she dedicates all her actions. Her impact in Africa is always greater and more sustained. Author of a book on bitcoin, she created the association "Bitcoin for Fairness" which can be translated as "Bitcoin for equity". Through her association, Anita Posh offers free courses to learn how to use Bitcoin.

She also has a podcast and a YouTube channel which help to better understand how bitcoin can participate in the development of Africa. A bitcoin evangelist, she also works to support LGBT rights on the continent.

Alakanani Itireleng: The founder of the Satoshi Center

In 6th place in the ranking, we find Alakanani Itireleng who created the Satoshi Center in Botswana, in 2014. The goal is to educate the local population about Bitcoin but also and above all to incubate and support entrepreneurs to create businesses around bitcoin.

Alakanani's journey ( @bitcoinLady on Twitter) is inspiring as she started without any financial assistance and grew the bitcoin community in Botswana on her own. It has very clearly contributed to the adoption of Bitcoin in Botswana and Africa more generally.

Bernard Parah: The founder of the BitNob application

Bernard Parah is the founder and CEO of the application Bitnob. The application allows to send cryptocurrencies to Africa and avoid significant commission fees with traditional agencies like Western Union. This Nigerian entrepreneur is a software engineer and he naturally turned to creating an application running on the Lightning Network. Thus, Bitnob allows you to receive and send bitcoin instantly and inexpensively.

Even more, Bitnob continues to expand its services so that Africans can benefit from financial services that were previously inaccessible, such as lending for example.

Craig Raw: The founder of the Sparrow portfolio

Craig Raw is a South African entrepreneur who founded “Sparrow Wallet”. It is a secure and non-custodial (the user manages his keys) which can be downloaded to his computer. Sparrow Wallet allows you to create multi-signatures for a protection of your cryptocurrencies more reinforced. The Sparrow wallet has become one of the most popular non-custodial wallets in South Africa and very popular among other countries in Africa.

Carel van Wyk: The founder of CryptoConvert

Carel van Wyk no longer works for the Luno application but nevertheless remains a pioneer in the creation of a Bitcoin business in Africa. Hailing from South Africa, he is helping drive the adoption of bitcoin in the country and across the continent. Today he launched the application « CryptoConvert" , which allows accept bitcoin payments for merchants. The app uses the Bitcoin Lightning Network to enable transactions at lower costs.

Abubakar Nour Khalil: The co-founder of the Qala Training Center

Abubakar Nur Khalil is a Nigerian computer scientist who wears several hats. Contributor to Bitcoin Core, he is also the CEO of Recursive Capital , an investment company for bitcoin-related projects. He is also the co-founder of Castle. This is a training school for blockchain developers. Nur Khalil is actively working to increase the environment of bitcoin statuses and companies in Africa.

-> Charlene Fadirepo, who worked on Wall Street as a consultant, is the founder of Guidefi. This is an app that connects financial advisors to learn how to invest with bitcoin. She is also the author of a book on bitcoin dedicated to children and she also co-wrote the free  » Bitcoin and the American Dream"

–> Lorraine Marceline is the founder of the association “ Bitcoin Dada » which is a center where women can learn and discover bitcoin. Based in Kenya, the organization Bitcoin Dada opens to the inclusion of women in thebitcoin ecosystem by giving them concrete tools.
