You must have heard of Polygon if you have ever looked to reduce fees on Ethereum. This would not be a surprise because in fact, the increase in Polygon users is correlated with the surge in gas price on Ethereum.
Of course, you always have the option of using other less expensive networks like Binance Smart Chain or others. That said, it is also understandable that you would want to stay on Ethereum because the network has the widest choice of daaps on the market. It's not easy to get rid of it, we agree.
In short, we're going to avoid big talk because if you're here it's because you simply want to know how to add the MATIC network to your metasmask, right?
Well, here we go.
Step One: Have a Metamask Wallet
There are other wallets than MetaMask, but habit and seniority means that we always use Metamask for ease.
In short, you are already a Metamask user and if this is not yet the case, we invite you to read the tutorial to install Metamask.
To successfully complete this first step, you have already install Metamask on the official website and you have noted your private key in a secure place. You have also downloaded the extension on Chrome to make it easier for you to connect with centralized applications.
Already understand that the MATIC network operates autonomously on Metamask. It is different from Ethereum. When you want to exchange, send or receive tokens on Matic, make sure you have selected the right network.
Second step: Add the Matic network
On the "fox" tab of your Metamask extension, when you click on main network, you see at the end the line "Custom RPC".
This is where you have to click to add new networks to your Metamask. Here is the information to enter manually:
- network name : Polygon Mainnet
- New RPC URL : https://rpc-mainnet.maticvigil.com/
- ChainID: 137
- Symbol: MATIC
- Block Explorer URL: https://explorer.matic.network/
Then, click on “save”.
Now your new Polygon network is added to your Metamask!
From here, you can now use all compatible dapps and select the Polygon network to reduce fees.
Third step: Own MATIC tokens
You should know that with your new network, you will not be able to do much if you do not have tokens.
You can use Polygon Bridge to send yourself tokens like ETH to your Matic wallet but be aware that you will have to pay ETH transaction fees.
To reduce fees, the ideal would be to buy MATIC token (which is also used to pay transaction fees on the Polygon network) on a decentralized platform like BinanceEg.
To withdraw your MATIC, you will need to select the MATIC network! Also note your Polygon address for withdrawal on the platform.
The withdrawal can be relatively long (depending on everyone's impatience), we were sometimes able to wait a few hours to receive our tokens. It's good to know that.
Conclusion on adding Matic network to Metamask
Now DeFi is yours!
The most used DEX on the Polygon network is undoubtedly quickswap on which you can exchange tokens and participate in liquidity pools as well. It's the version of uni swap on the Polygon network in a way.
Happy exploring!
