March 21, 2019

Buying bitcoin with CFA Franc is not that simple and especially for a beginner. This is the inevitable question you will tell me, for those who live in Africa. We had already written an article which explains how to buy bitcoin in Africa. If you are looking for even more, more precise information, here is this article written for you.

There are several platforms, including peer-to-peer platforms, where you can buy bitcoin with CFA francs. For practical reasons, in this article, we will focus particularly on the platform Noons, which is one of the best sites, in our opinion. So, let's not waste any more time, and let's go!

Remember that the first thing to do is to have a bitcoin wallet. We advise you to use the reference for open a bitcoin wallet on blockchain wallet.

How to buy bitcoin with CFA Franc on Noons?

The first thing to do is use the search bar. There, this will allow you to sharpen your search. On LocalBitcoin, you can choose the currency you want. However, the site has closed its doors..That is why we recommend using Noons. In this example, we chose the CFA franc, we therefore opted for the XOF which is the official monetary name of the CFA Franc.

You don't have to choose the country, because basically bitcoin is borderless. To follow the example, we put the Ivory Coast. If this is your first time, it might reassure you to negotiate with people who live in your country. That's up to you.

The limits represent the amount the seller has to sell.

So, to return to this example that you see in the screenshot above, we have 4 proposals.

2/ Choose your payment method

Yes, it's up to you to decide which payment method you want.

For example, today we have these 4 possibilities:

  • Bank transfer via Ecobank
  • Orange Money
  • Moov Money
  • Western Union
  • Paypal

Depending on your preference, you choose the payment method that interests you the most. Once you have chosen, you click on “Buy”. No worries, for the moment you don't buy anything. You must first discuss with the sellers.

On the right you see the seller's bitcoin rate.

Then, by clicking, you will have the seller's description. In general, he gives you his phone number on WhatsApp to facilitate exchanges. Some prefer to communicate directly on the platform's chat.

If you are a beginner, this is also a good way to understand how it works.

You should also be careful of scams and only follow sellers who already have experience on the platform. Only go for sellers who already have reviews and comments.

3/ Send your payment to the buyer

Once you have agreed on the terms with the seller, you can send the CFA Francs. In fact, for security reasons, the platform uses an “escrow” system. This will hold the funds until the seller releases the funds themselves. The platform informs you that the bitcoins have been released. You will receive them directly in your account on Noones Then you can withdraw and store your bitcoins wherever you want.

There you are, you have just bought bitcoin with CFA francs. It's not that complicated as you just saw.

So here is the tutorial for buying your first bitcoins on Noones with CFA francs. I hope this was helpful to you. If you have any questions do not hesitate. You can also do this on other platforms, the process is always the same.

  1. Hello,
On 23/01/23 8:30 a.m. (Dakar) there is only one seller of BTC at 15 XOF via orange money while on coinmarketcap the BTC is at 088 XOF!
Which makes around 10% fees to which must be added 1% orange money fees…
Knowing that a SEPA transfer to Binance only costs €1 (655 CFA)…

    • Yes, you can use Binance to reduce fees, but not everyone has SEPA…localBitcoin is for those who want to use orange money or another way. And yes, there are fees and sellers often charge higher prices.
