What is Jambo, Africa's Web 3 'super app'?

March 14, 2022

Project Jambo has been a lot of talk in the African media lately. The founders announced in February a fundraising of $7,5 million. The most recognized investment funds have invested in the project, such as Delphi Ventures, Coinbase Ventures, Three Arrows Capital and Alameda Research.

Blockchain technology can be an incredible opportunity to develop growth African. For many economists, it is even the royal road given to Africa to take full advantage of the Internet and its possibilities.

It is the continent which expects the most and which has already set foot in the stirrup. Indeed, Nigeria for example is the 3rd country in terms of use of bitcoin. This shows to what extent there is a market and a growing market.

More and more companies and entrepreneurs are embarking on crypto projects and Jambo is today a representative case.

Described as a Web 3 “super app” and aimed at the African continent, we will see here what it is more precisely.

Jambo: Simplified access to Web 3

Founder James Zhang (a Chinese entrepreneur based in Congo) recalls that the continent is particularly receptive to cryptos. Moreover, we have counted a certain number of African cryptocurrencies, which already shows the interest there on the continent.

Jambo's goal is to create a web 3 "super app" for Africa and Africans. This super app wants to push mass adoption in Africa.

So what is this “super app”?

The adjective "super" refers to the idea that the app is multi-functional. The idea is to help users generate additional finances through the web3.

Thus, Jambo offers different services such as play to earn games, staking services, etc. Moreover, the model is similar to those of video game guilds. Users could receive funds from the community to play games for example.

Likewise, Jambo has big ambitions and plans to bring together decentralized social media as well.

Thus, in a single application, Jambo would offer different easy-to-access services.

The African market: the next crypto continent?

What's interesting about Jambo is not so much that it pursues financial inclusion for financial inclusion's sake. She said she wanted to adapt to each region. Africa is a very large continent and each country and region has its own particularities.

So, initially, Jambo is launching on the English-speaking market. This is much more “open” to cryptocurrencies than the French-speaking region…for the moment at least.

We have seen many projects like that of rapper Akon in Senegal. THE African cryptos to develop Africa are not missing but we are still waiting for updates…

Jambo wants to stand out and be effective. It has planned a "JamboAcademy" in more than 15 countries to initially train developers and users.

In short, a case to follow, which, we sincerely hope, will lead to something concrete...
