Here we will give you our Ledge reviewr as well as a guide on how to install it.
Having bitcoins is good. Having them safe is better. As we explained to you in a previous article, there are different type of bitcoin wallet.
You know it, the most secure of all wallets remains the physical wallet. This wallet is also called the cold wallet. “Cold” wallet opposite “Hot” wallet, because it is not online. Especially if you have a significant amount of cryptocurrency, you need one.
In fact, there are two cryptocurrency hard wallet providers: Ledger and Trezor.
We will make one item for each wallet. Here we start with the Ledger S which we have just obtained.
What is the Ledger Nano S?
The Nano S is an offline cryptocurrency wallet. It's a kind of storage key. This is your real safe for your virtual currencies. You can store your rypto-currencies securely there if you want to resell them in the future. You can store bitcoin, ether and many other altcoins there.
The startup Ledger claims that its wallet is the most secure in the world. Likewise, Trzeor representatives claim the same thing. What must be remembered is their inviolability. Your cryptocurrencies are not on a platform but on an external key.
The Ledger crypto wallet has only two buttons. The navigation button is done with the left or right button. At least it's very easy to use. To access the menu, you must press both buttons at the same time.
The Ledger Nano wallet can store many cryptocurrencies. This list is often updated as ICOs appear. Likewise, the Ledger wallet supports MyEtherwallet. This means that the new tokens that you buy during an ICO, for example, can be stored. Honestly, to give you our opinion on the Ledger, that too is simply brilliant.
Ledger Wallet Features:
- The Legder wallet supports a larger number of cryptocurrencies than its known competitors and other cryptocurrencies with different applications.
- It is an international company that operates in several countries, including France, with more than 80 employees around the world.
- Confirmation is manual for transactions
- The Ledger is compatible with Windows (7+), Mac (10.8+) Linux and Chrome OS
- There is an LED screen and two confirmation buttons
- The Price: around 70 Euros
What you will receive in your Ledger package:
The Ledger Nano will come with the following items. If any item is missing, please consult customer support.
- The Ledger Nano S Wallet
- A micro-USB cable
- A cord for wearing a device around the neck (such as a necklace)
- A key ring and a key ring
- Recovery sheet for writing private keys.
Ledger Nano S: Installation Guide
Before you begin the initial setup, make sure to go to your Chrome browser. If you haven't installed it, please do so first.
1. Connect your Ledger Nano S
There, you will need to connect the USB cable provided between your Nano S and your computer. Your Ledger wallet will then show several options. Choose the “create new wallet” option. You can also restore a wallet using a private key you already have.
2. Choose a PIN
Now choose a private PIN. Try choosing something other than your date of birth! It will be needed every time you turn on your Ledger. Depending on the firmware date you have, you will have the choice of a four-digit or eight-digit PIN.
3. Save your recovery phrase
This is the most important phase. The ledger will reveal 24 words to you, one by one. This is your private key. You must copy the words in the same order. Its very important. You can write down the words and the order on the sheet that is provided in your package. That said, personally, we do not recommend it. Use another sheet or copy them to a USB stick for greater security. If a malicious person recognizes the Ledger sheet, they will immediately know that it is your private key.
This is again – the private key to your wallet. This will be the only way to recover your account if the device is stolen or you forget your PIN. So, keep it safe!
4. Install Ledger applications
Now it's good, you're almost done setting up your Ledger! It's easy, isn't it? All you have to do is install the applications of your choice. Go to the 'Apps' page. From there, you can install any cryptocurrencies you want.
5. How to manage your portfolio:
- Launch the wallet on your computer.
- Launch the dedicated app on your Ledger to unlock and sync your wallet.
- Well done ! Your Ledger is now configured!
- You can send and receive cryptocurrencies.
How to restore a lost or stolen Ledger Nano S?
The founders have thought of everything! If you lose or have your Ledger stolen, you can restore your entire balance to another physical wallet. Thanks to your 24-word private key, it will be possible to carry out the transfer.
Moreover, if your Ledger is stolen, without the PIN code, it will be impossible for them to access your account. Additionally, the Ledger Nano locks if the PIN code is entered incorrectly three times in a row.
Other wallet apps
The Ledger Nano S wallet allows you to install additional applications. For example, you can install the two-factor authentication application (UF2) on Google, Dropbox or Github. It is even possible for developers to create specific applications.
I remind you that the word application is different from the term telephone application for example. For each cryptocurrency or tokens you want to store, you will need to activate this app. By default, the Ledger Nano S wallet already has a few applications installed: Bitcoin, Ethereum and UF2.

To conclude on our Ledger Nanos S review
Our opinion on Ledger Nano S is that it is an excellent wallet for your cryptocurrencies. One of the best, for sure. We appreciate the fact that a transaction must be physically confirmed. So, this means that even if a person manages to hack a transaction, they will be unable to validate or steal anything. Indeed, because you will need to have the Ledger and physically validate the transaction.
That’s reassuring, isn’t it?
In fact, if you want to sleep soundly and protect your cryptocurrencies well, you clearly need a Ledger-type physical wallet!
More than 1 million people already have it! So, what are you waiting for?
