Have you heard of Pixelmon? Well, a little article to get you up to speed won't do you any harm. On the contrary, it will make you smile.
Pixelmon is a collection of NFTs that is directly and openly inspired (copy and paste in crypto is commonplace, don't worry) from the Pokemon game on Nintendo.
So far so good.
The collection quickly raised the equivalent of $70 million during the public mint on February 7... This ranked Pixelmon among the best-selling NFTs in history and sold out in less than a day. Oh yes, just that. We might have expected a collective applause as we tend to do with big successes in NFTs.
But, quite the opposite happened. Rather, it was bursts of laughter and mockery that burst forth from the benevolent and magnificent Twittersphere. And this is also what greatness and decadence of NFTs...

In fact, it is a large part of the holders of Pixelmon NFT who complained when the image of the NFTs was revealed.
They were disappointed and that is a very light word. They were especially afraid that it was just a scam to the extent that it has unfortunately become commonplace...
Why such dismay?
Although in general, the aesthetic quality of NFTs is not at all the priority and many NFTs worth millions could have been created by the most mediocre of illustrators, it turns out that for Pixelmon, the work seems downright sloppy.
Judge for yourself, please:

It turns out that even the founders admitted that the illustrations were poor quality. The team naturally apologized and this still reassured the community who had paid up to 3 ETH for a single NFT (equivalent to $9000) with the gas fees on Ethereum.
In fact, there would not have been such an outcry if it was an NFT intended to simply be collected. The problem here is that these are NFTs of a future game. The holders therefore said to themselves that the game was also going to be of poor quality.
It must be said that on the site, we found great promises with the intention of simply creating the largest NFT game that exists with a metaverse of the best quality there is….
This is what often happens when crypto projects promise too much, we agree. But, there, they went too far in the one-upmanship, a bit like what e-commerce trainers convert to the NFT business at the last minute.
The turnaround
The founders participated in a video Ask me anything for their community on Discord, where they explained that they didn't think the project would be so successful. They have somewhat "neglected" the illustrative work without really knowing it. They have a very small team at the moment and of course, they will be able to hire new people (more qualified) with the money raised.
Moreover, the team recently announced a new partnership to develop the metaverse with the company Magic Media. The company is known for its experience in video games and precisely for the quality of their graphics.
This is a perfect rebound as we like them.
What's also funny and it's the Streisand effect well assured, is that this brought enormous visibility to the Pixelmon project.
The founders took responsibility for their mistakes and showed that they had the shoulders to face such adventures.

Pixelmon's Kevin NFT became a meme
Seriously, without this story, we wouldn't have talked about this project because there are so many and we can't deal with them all due to lack of time.
However, this whole ordeal seems having increased the value of some of the Pixelmon NFTs like the famous NFT that has gone viral, become a meme that is the NFT Kevin.
Indeed, an NFT Kevin has just been sold for 7.5 ETH (or approximately $21,877.80) on open sea.
And, needless to say, how much the crypto community appreciates memes…
So that was the nice punchline of this story.
