The Raspberry Pi 4: the ideal computer for crypto staking?

July 20, 2020

I don't know if you know the Raspberry Pi Foundation, but know that it is a very interesting foundation. It is primarily a team of developers who created a popular and inexpensive single-board computer.

Basically, a computer accessible to everyone. This computer is very functional and can be used for several things, including crypto staking.

Yes, many crypto holders have used the Raspberry Pi 3 for staking. It has been used for staking Monero and Teozs for example.

Since then, the foundation has launched the new Raspberry Pi 4 model which turns out to be even more powerful.

It is therefore the subject of this article to talk to you more specifically about the Raspberry.

The new Raspberry 4 model

In fact, the Pi 4 received all the attention from diehard cryptocurrency fans when it was released.

Indeed, its new structure offers a considerable performance upgrade over the Pi 3, while still being offered at the affordable price of $35 USD. Yes, this computer is sold for 35 dollars; That's still incredibly low considering everything you can do with it.

In an official post, Raspberry Pi (Trading) Ltd. CEO Eben Upton explained how the computer's capabilities have really evolved from the last generation to the latest. All elements of the platform have been improved and performance levels are now optimal.

This is why the Raspberry is even more interesting for holders of cryptocurrencies.

Raspberry and the Ethereum community

The Raspberry Pi 4 announcement seemed to resonate most with the Ethereum community in particular. For what?

This is because Ethereum is about to allow staking with 32 ether (ETH) to become a validator on the Ethereum 2.0 chain.

Moreover, it is an announcement that has shaken things up a lot and shows to what extent staking will cause a sensation.

Thus, the 4 GB of RAM Pi 4 means that users have in terms of capacity, everything they need to do staking.

I add that an "expert" from the Foundation Ethereum, Justin Drake, claimed that a Raspberry Pi 4 could power an ETH 2.0 validator. knot easily, without being overloaded.

Notably, it would currently cost around $7000 to purchase 32 ETH, as of today.

Basically, buying a Raspberry Pi 4 to stake Ethereum 2.0 is therefore a perfect investment.

Raspberry used in staking

Another area to consider when releasing the Raspberry Pi 4 is definitely the plug-and-play device industry.

Thus, one of the most used remains, for example, the devices of StakeBox.

make staking easily

I talk about it regularly and especially when I talk about staking because I really like their services.

The company StakeBox therefore sells already configured devices in which you can do 24-hour staking, by simply plugging in this device built with the Raspberry Pi 4.

So, if you don't see yourself creating this machine, then this is a viable option for you. If you want to do it alone; you need a minimum of computer skills although there are many tutorials on the subject. No worries there.

Also, there are other companies that use Raspberry to create devices dedicated to the crypto-sphere.

I could tell you for example about one of the most popular which is Casa Node. This means that some manufacturers are already using the Raspberry Pi 4 to build pre-made devices to facilitate work on the blockchain.

So this is what I wanted to say about the possibilities of staking with Raspberry.

Are you going to seize this opportunity?

  1. Hello,

Many thanks for this wealth of information.
I am considering getting a Raspberry Pi 4 to carry out staking and in particular to prepare for Ethereum 2.0, I still have to decide on the capacity I will take :)

I didn't know about stakebox at all, the service offered is really interesting, however if I'm not mistaken, it currently only offers models 3.

    Have a good day !

    • Thank you for your message, yes really, I myself was delighted to discover the stakebox. Yes, not yet model 4 but if you know how to tinker a little, you can directly take the Raspberry 4…
