How about buying Gustave Klimt's "The Kiss"?

NFT Gustave Klimt the kiss

The title sounds catchy but believe me, it's true (or almost).

I believe that we have just taken an important step for NFTs and for the art world in general.

Seriously.

The Belvedere Museum in Vienna is selling NFTs of (perhaps the most famous?) Klimt painting.

We suspected that NFTs would gradually leave the world of cryptocurrencies and join the major spheres of artistic institutions. Eventually, auction houses like Christie's got the ball rolling, and it's been quite a while now.

The die was already cast but the announcement of the Belvédère museum may nevertheless surprise us.

Why?

Well, until now, works of art sold in the form of NFTs by institutions were digital works falling under the name Crypto-Art. In fact, this expression did not refer to anything very specific aesthetically, other than works produced digitally. The NFTs sold millions were then works of contemporary digital artists including Beeple's became the undisputed leader.

Basically, this is the first time that a masterpiece has been sold in the form of an NFT! By a museum at that!

The sale was planned for Valentine's Day (should I remind you of the date February 14?) and the title of the work shows us that the museum knows how to be insightful and coherent 😉

Eh? But how to sell an oil painting as an NFT?

I heard you!

In fact, if you're interested in the process, I'll quickly explain how it's going to happen. I'd rather stop you right now if you think that collectors will be able to display the Klimt in their living room. No, everything happens virtually, as you know.

The museum will make a high-resolution digital copy which will be divided into a 100×100 (cm) grid. The dimensions of the original painting are around 180x180 cm. This will therefore make 10,000 unique pieces of the work. This collection of 10,000 NFTs of Klimt's work will therefore be offered for sale to individual collectors (and private collectors, of course).

For those who want to participate, it is possible to register on the white list, from January 20 (the same day this article is published).

This is happening on the site Thekiss.art and here is the link here.

As for the sale, it will take place on February 9 and the elected officials (those who have been registered on the white list) will receive authorization to be able to mint Klimt's NFT.

The official release and track reveal will take place on February 14. This is also where all the latecomers, the unlucky (yes, it's a draw) or all the people who haven't had the chance to be kept informed will rush to try to get them. also a piece of Klimt in their wallet.

You know what?

As I write these lines, I realize the event and the historical significance (yes, I'm not afraid of big words!) of this sale.

Ah..By the way, are you wondering what the price will be? Well, I don't know either, the price won't be listed. The only thing we can assume is that it won't be cheap.

Well yes, if works of cats sell for millions of euros, you would think that a piece of the masterpiece would be worth gold... digital certainly, but gold nonetheless.

In short, it’s literally a big step for art and for collectors. You can literally buy (if you can afford it, ok) a Klimt from your living room.

Tomorrow, a Picasso and many others.

It's crazy.

It’s not so much a big step for NFTs as it is a big step for Art…
