Vitalik Buterin

Who is Vitalik Buterin, the founder of Ethereum?

December 17, 2018

Have you heard about Vitalik Buterin in the media? This is normal, he is at the origin of the Ethereum protocol. A blockchain protocol just as amazing as Bitcoin. Even more, thanks to theEthereum, we have gone even further in the use of blockchain.

So who is Vitalik Buterin? A short summary in this article.

Vitalik Buterin: A young…gifted…

Yes, the first thing to remember about Vitalik Buterin is his precocity…

On Wikipedia, we can read that at the age of 4, he was playing with computers and Excels in particular. At the age of 7, he had written a very detailed encyclopedia on rabbits.

In addition, from a very young age, he was interested in computers. As a teenager, he developed a passion for video games and became a real gamer Remember that his father is a computer scientist. That must have helped him get his hands dirty. He is so passionate about computers that he even won a bronze medal in the International Computer Science Olympiad.

A gamer and geek

Vitalik was born in 1994 in Russia and moved to Canada in 2000, when he was 6 years old.

Vitalik Buterik was (is?) a great gamer. We won't be surprised. He was an avid World of Warcraft player from 2007 to 2010. One day a storm knocked out his computer. He was very affected by the total loss of his data. That day, he realized how catastrophic centralized services can be.

In 2011, he was looking for a new purpose in life. He is the one who wrote this in his biography. He discovered that moment  how does bitcoin work. He says that at first he was a little skeptical because there was no physical support.

Beginnings as a crypto editor…

Little by little, he became interested in the subject. At first, he wanted to mine bitcoin and be part of the community. But, not having the means, he decided to write articles on the subject. In exchange, he would be paid in bitcoin. Imagine that he was paid 5 BTC for each article!

He started writing for a blog called “Bitcoin Weekly”. At the time he was paid $3,50 for each article. Needless to say, how much he was able to earn from these items!

In 2012, he entered the University of Waterloo. In 2013, he realized that crypto projects were taking up 30 hours/week of my time, so he left college.

Subsequently, he co-founded one of the first specialist magazines: Bitcoin Magazine, with  Mihai Alisie. Understand then that he was one of the first users of theBitcoin ecosystem.

He will therefore be editor for Bitcoin Magazine until 2014. You can read these articles here . You can see he had a certain talent and a certain writing style. It was there that he consolidated his reputation and gradually created his network.

He traveled the world, explored many crypto projects and eventually realized that they were all too concerned with specific applications and were not general enough – hence the birth ofEthereum, who has occupied his life since.

Thus, Vitalik Buterin has made a huge breakthrough in the world of cryptos. Thanks to his genius, we were able to go even further in Blockchain.

What exactly is Ethereum?

It is an infrastructure that extends the possibilities of Bitcoin. Ether was the second cryptocurrency after bitcoin, but has recently been surpassed by Ripple.  Yes, since September 21, Ripple has exceeded all our expectations in terms of capitalization.

Which makes it a strength and advantage of Ethereum over the Bitcoin, it is the possibility of using Dapp. Moreover, decentralized applications are the sinews of the Ethereum war. Indeed, Ethereum makes it possible to support other applications outside of financial exchanges.

In addition, it is also since the appearance of Ethereum that we have been able to see the appearance of Ico.

Here is a video, published 4 years ago already in which Vitalik explains what the Ethereum project is:

To explain another way:

Understand that Ethereum is a kind of global computer networks. Anyone can be part of it and program according to their desires. Everything that is done and programmed on this computer is completely public.

In other words, Ethereum is the total decentralization of applications. We see that this remains a sort of logical continuation of the Bitcoin blockchain.

To use the Ethereum blockchain, we use  'smart contracts”. Smart contracts are programmable lines of code that roughly correspond to lines on a large Excel spreadsheet.

So much for the very quick explanation of what Ethereum is. We have written a more complete article to explain how it works.
